Hey guys! So when I started flag football we had about 12 different plays and we were all assigned different positions so we had to memorize how the plays worked with our position, I was wide receiver. Then one game my coach made me play running back. There were 3 things that made this a hard change. First of all I had to learn all different routes. Second It was a game so I didn't want to mess up. Third I had to learn how to block for our wide receivers.
So I had already memorized all of the plays for a wide receiver so I was used to them. Sometimes I would run my old routes when I was supposed to run the new ones and my coach would get mad at me. Also when I ran the wrong routes it through the quarter back off which could sometimes mess up the whole play. I also needed to learn how to get handed the ball the proper way.
Normally being in a game wasn't to hard when I was wide receiver. But then I had too learn everything about a running back in the middle of a game. I was usually a pretty good player but when I switched I kept on making mistakes which made it embarrassing. Unfortunately after making a few more mistakes my coach took me out for the rest of the game.
One thing I never knew a running back had to do was block. I knew that was the linemen's job but I thought that when the running back wasn't running he was just standing around. So I had to learn to block, it was easy in the beginning because I was facing smaller guys but then when the big kids cam it was like a lawn mower was running over an ant. Eventually I learned just to give it all you got and you can usually stop the big kids.
In conclusion this was a big change, there was lots of other hard challenges I just didn't mention them. I just had to learn to do different things to fix my weak spots. After that game I became running back for every game we played and I got used to it. There is always going to be challenges in life you just need to find ways to get around them.
