Hey guys! So when I started flag football we had about 12 different plays and we were all assigned different positions so we had to memorize how the plays worked with our position, I was wide receiver. Then one game my coach made me play running back. There were 3 things that made this a hard change. First of all I had to learn all different routes. Second It was a game so I didn't want to mess up. Third I had to learn how to block for our wide receivers.
So I had already memorized all of the plays for a wide receiver so I was used to them. Sometimes I would run my old routes when I was supposed to run the new ones and my coach would get mad at me. Also when I ran the wrong routes it through the quarter back off which could sometimes mess up the whole play. I also needed to learn how to get handed the ball the proper way.
Normally being in a game wasn't to hard when I was wide receiver. But then I had too learn everything about a running back in the middle of a game. I was usually a pretty good player but when I switched I kept on making mistakes which made it embarrassing. Unfortunately after making a few more mistakes my coach took me out for the rest of the game.
One thing I never knew a running back had to do was block. I knew that was the linemen's job but I thought that when the running back wasn't running he was just standing around. So I had to learn to block, it was easy in the beginning because I was facing smaller guys but then when the big kids cam it was like a lawn mower was running over an ant. Eventually I learned just to give it all you got and you can usually stop the big kids.
In conclusion this was a big change, there was lots of other hard challenges I just didn't mention them. I just had to learn to do different things to fix my weak spots. After that game I became running back for every game we played and I got used to it. There is always going to be challenges in life you just need to find ways to get around them.
Hey guys so on Friday I watched Maze Runner 2. Overall the plot was good and there was constantly action. But I noticed something, when the actors were running the camera was shaking. It wasn't too bad for the normal eye but I seem to notice the little details more. The effects although were very convincing especially the zombies they looked very real. I got so into the movie that when there was a jump scare, I covered my face thinking something was going to jump out and grab me. In conclusion Maze runner 2 was a very good movie but had some sloppy errors.
When I first started surfing I thought it was going to be easy, just get up and start riding, right? Well the first thing is paddling out this takes strength because sometimes there is currents. You also need to get pass the waves, this an be tricky because sometimes the waves are big. The next thing is getting up on the wave this is especially hard when the waves are big because you can easily fall off.
Paddling seems the easiest right? Well when there is currents sometimes it takes 30 minutes just to get out. And then when you catch a wave you have to paddle out again. It also hurts your neck because you constantly have to look up. Your arms also get really worn out.
Getting past the waves plays a big part in surfing. It all depends on the type of wave it is, if it is a wave that breaks on sand its typically going to be more powerful, and if it is a wave breaks on the reef its typically going to be less powerful. It also depends if there is a swell or not, if there is its going to be so much harder because depending on the swell you could easily drown.
Now for the most important part, standing up! If you watch surfing videos they make it seem really easy. But in reality there is so much more, first you need to know when to stand up because if your too early your not going to catch the wave and if your too late you could get pounded. You can also get sucked over the wave which could make you get held under the water for long periods of time. Also when you catch the wave you could easily hit someone.
In conclusion surfing was one of the things that looked easy in the beginning but it turned out to be really hard. The three main things that makes surfing hard is paddling out to the waves themselves. Trying to get over the waves so you can actually catch the waves. Then actually catching a wave without falling down.
When I first started surfing I thought it was going to be easy, just get up and start riding, right?
So with camp last weekend there were lots of good memories, for this weeks blog Im going to talk about my top 3 memories. One of my favorite memories was the photography hike when we were helping each other get over the fallen log. I also liked when we were out of power and we were playing "Name that song". Probably my favorite memory was the night hike with uncle Billy.
The photography hike was really fun, I felt Ohana throughout the weekend but when we were climbing over the fallen log I felt it the most Ohana. Everyone was helping each other and if someone fell everyone would ask if they were ok and then help them up. There was laughter and smiles going through everyone at camp and I met a lot more amazing people.
"Name That Song" is really fun and funny. Basically its when Mr. M plays the begging of a song, and then we needed to guess the name of the song. It was easy when Mr. M would ply songs that were new because we had Taylor on our team. Although it was hard when he played old songs because we had no chaperone on our team.
The night hike was so fun, because at parts it was pitch dark. It was also really funny when the chaperones hid in the trees and made spooky sounds, because you could tell that they were fake. It was also really funny because hiking near Ben and he was playing funny noises on his phone for example, he played a creepy with laugh. It was also cool when it was silent because you could see the stars above and hear the nature sounds.
In conclusion there was so many awesome memories from camp. I am really happy that I went, yet sad that is over. I really want to thank Mr. M or everything that he has done for media. He made camp really fun especially when we were playing dodgeball.
So for this weeks blog I wanted to talk about one of my favorite filmmakers, Devin Supertramp. His videos are action packed and have really good angles, they are taken with 4k drones and sometimes $70,000.00 cameras. His videos are normally about cliff jumping, race car driving, exotic places and much more. He inspired me to get into media, in fact he inspired me with filmmaking in general.

Hey guys so for this weeks blog I wanted to talk about how technology has changed. Think about it, there used to not even be internet, that would also limit education. People would take a life time learning about other places around the world and we can find more info in 10 minutes. Its has some negative effects for example people being glued to there phone. Camp will allow us to get unstuck and start socializing which is a really good thing. In conclusion technology has changed a lot.
Old Tech VS New Tech:
Camps coming up and I cant wait, I want to make it fun for all so Im going to make sure to try to bond with all our students. I also want to give at least 5 compliments in the morning this will hopefully make it easier to meet each other. I also want to do really good on the secret letters.
I really can't wait to meet new people at camp. I already met most of our class through media. But I want to learn more about them, who knows maybe everyone in media will end up becoming some of my best friends. The media classroom already feels very safe mostly because everyone is nice to each other in media, but camp will only add to that.
Compliments is something I always try to work on it makes people want to hang out with you. But sometimes it's a little awkward because it's harder to talk to someone one on one than saying it in your head. Giving compliments will also help me meet new people so I will feel really comfortably sitting somewhere new in our media period.
Secret letters sound really cool and I can't wait for them. It will be like a game played through the whole camp. I really want to try to do my best on these because it will make someone feel good and there is nothing better than making someone feel good. It will also be a little hard to be anonymous about it. I think this is going to play a big role in camp.
To sum it up I know camp is going to be a blast! Im going to try my best to make it fun for everyone. Theres so many things that I cant wait to do up there. I hope everyone has as much fun as I know i'm going to have.
My name is Erik I am currently in 6th grade. In my free time I like getting videos of waves, and putting them together to make edits. I also like taking pictures of waves.
